In Part 2 of our published series for the University of Puerto Rico Law Journal (In Rev), Vivo Alliance examines the current state of victims’ rights in Puerto Rico, with a focus on sexual assault cases. Building on our collaboration with students from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, this report analyzes key deficiencies in Puerto Rico’s legal framework and compares them with best practices from across the U.S. and 21 international jurisdictions. Through a careful study of Puerto Rico’s existing victims’ rights laws and international models, this second installment offers actionable legal recommendations to improve prosecutorial outcomes and ensure justice for survivors.
